2022 GMC Sierra 2500
The GMC Sierra 2500 is a strong, capable pickup truck that's also perfect for everyday driving. For the 2022 model year, GMC renamed the entry-level model the Pro and made new 20-inch wheels with a Beadlock-style design available for some trims. The Sierra comes in two different cab sizes, offers two bed lengths, and drivers get a choice of engines. Take a look at the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The entry-level Sierra 2500 is the Pro. It has 17-inch steel wheels, a trailer hitch, manually adjustable trailering mirrors, and a locking tailgate. Step up to the SLE for 17-inch alloy wheels, the MultiPro configurable tailgate, power-adjustable and heated side exterior mirrors, and upgraded trim elements. The SLT adds 18-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, all-terrain tires, extendible trailering mirrors, and lighting in the cargo bed. Choose the AT4 for an off-road-tuned suspension, skid plates, and a spray-in bedliner. At the top of the lineup, the Denali has 20-inch alloy wheels, side steps, and the option for power-deployable side steps.
Engine (Power)
The base powertrain for the Sierra 2500 is a 6.6-liter gas V-8. It generates 401 horsepower and works with a six-speed automatic transmission. A 6.6-liter turbodiesel is available and gets you 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. This engine works with GMC's 10-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
The diesel engine and its impressive torque is the best choice for towing heavy loads. It can tow up to 18,500 pounds and haul a 3,979-pound payload. The AT4 and Denali trims come standard with four-wheel drive, while the lower trims come standard with rear-wheel drive and offer all-wheel drive as an option.
Interior
Inside, the Sierra 2500 has room for up to six, depending on the cab. The entry-level Pro has vinyl upholstery and manual windows, and just a step up to the SLE gets you cloth upholstery and power door locks. Leather upholstery comes in the SLT and above, and these higher trims also have dual-zone automatic climate control and power-adjustable front seats. The upscale Denali upgrades to premium leather, while both the AT4 and Denali have ventilated front seats. Technology features in the Sierra 2500 start with a 7-inch touch screen and have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. You'll get an 8-inch touch screen in the SLE, which also has GMC Connected Services with a Wi-Fi hot spot. A 120-volt power outlet comes in the SLE, but the Denali has even more tech with integrated navigation, a Bose stereo system, and wireless smartphone charging.
Safety Features
Every Sierra 2500 has a rearview camera, a full suite of air bags, and traction and stability control. The SLT adds a high-definition backup camera with a Hitch View angle, and the AT4 has hill descent control. GMC equips the Denali with a host of standard driver aids and makes them available for the rest of the lineup. These safety systems include forward collision warning with mitigation, parking sensors, a surround-view camera, lane-departure warning, a safety alert seat, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert.
